From November 21 to 23, 2023, Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, will host the 10th International Forum for Clean Energy (IFCE) conference. As an annual event with significant influence in the international clean energy field, IFCE has traveled to Europe for the first time in ten years, aiming to deepen international cooperation in the clean energy field and promote green and low-carbon transformation and development.
It is reported that IFCE is a non-profit and permanent social organization and international organization established in Macau in 2012. With the support of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the Macau SAR Government, IFCE aims to promote and deepen exchanges, coordination, and cooperation among countries around the world in the fields of clean energy, energy conservation, and environmental protection. It focuses on policy research, technological exchange, and industrial cooperation in the areas of clean energy and carbon neutrality. It has held nine consecutive forums and edited and published 12 "Blue Books on Clean Energy". The forum currently has over 200 business leaders, experts, scholars, and other directors from over 10 countries around the world in industries such as energy, automotive, and financial investment.
Deepen cooperation to jointly address global climate change
IFCE Secretary General Zhou Jie stated, "This year is the mid-term uation year of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the global inventory year of the implementation of the Paris Agreement. However, unfortunately, progress in implementing most of the Sustainable Development Goals has been slow, and overall progress is far from expected. There is still a significant gap in achieving the global temperature control goals, so international cooperation urgently needs to be further strengthened." He added, choosing to convene in Portugal, Setting the theme of the forum as "Energy Transformation and International Cooperation in the Context of Global Carbon Neutrality" is precisely to further promote technological and industrial cooperation between China and Europe in the field of clean energy.
Zhou Jie further explained that China and Portugal have a good foundation for cooperation. Portugal is the first Western European country to sign a cooperation document with China on the "the Belt and Road" initiative, and also the first EU country to officially establish a "blue partnership" with China. Portuguese speaking countries are distributed in Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America, with abundant natural resources and market potential, and huge complementary cooperation space with China. The Mediterranean coastal countries, spanning across the three continents of Europe, Asia, and Africa, which are adjacent to Portugal, are currently accelerating the deployment of renewable energy and have broad common interests and a deep foundation of cooperation with China in the fields of energy and climate.
It is understood that Portugal is one of the most active countries in promoting clean energy development in the world. The latest data shows that in the first quarter of 2030, 72% of Portugal's electricity comes from renewable energy sources. According to EU statistics, Portugal ranks fourth on the list of clean energy usage rates in EU countries. Portugal's goal is to account for 85% of its annual electricity consumption through renewable energy generation by 2030, which is higher than around 60% in 2022. This will be the highest proportion in Europe. At present, the Portuguese government has introduced a series of measures to actively promote major energy companies to invest in green energy.
Therefore, the convening of this forum is of great significance for promoting the construction of a closer, more efficient, and mutually beneficial global clean energy transformation partnership.
Big shots gather to discuss low-carbon transformation and development
According to the organizers, with strong support from the Portuguese Ministry of Environment and Climate Action, the Environmental Protection Agency of the Macau SAR Government, and the China Portugal Forum, this conference is jointly hosted by IFCE and the Portuguese Energy Agency (ADENE), with the participation of the State Power Investment Corporation, the Macau Banking Association, and the Portuguese Investment and Trade Authority (AICEP).
Currently, the century long changes in the world and the century long pandemic are intertwined, with the rise of unilateralism and protectionism. Economic globalization is facing a backlash, and Chinese enterprises are facing a more complex environment when going global. In order to promote technological exchange and industrial cooperation in the field of clean energy between China and Europe, the forum invited representatives from various fields such as energy, electricity, energy conservation, environmental protection, and green finance, including Portuguese speaking countries and Mediterranean coastal countries, from China and abroad to attend. The attending guests will engage in in-depth exchanges around new technologies, new formats, new models, and new scenarios of carbon neutrality, as well as green electricity and energy storage technologies, green finance, and other topics, including photovoltaics, offshore wind power, and green hydrogen energy. Together, they will explore new models of energy transformation through bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
State Power Investment Corporation, China National Nuclear Corporation, Dongfang Electric, Goldwind Technology, Siemens Energy, Southern Power Grid, China National Energy Engineering Corporation Gezhouba, State Machinery Engineering Corporation of China, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Zhejiang University, Trina Solar, Sungrow Power, CATL, Sonnen Energy Storage, Vestas, DNV, REN, GALP, Mota Engil Hydrogen Chemistry (H2CHEM), Offshore Renewable Energy (WavEC), Haitong Bank, as well as the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), European Energy Agency (DG ENER), Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), Spanish Photovoltaic Energy Association (UNEF), German Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (DWV), Portuguese Energy and Geology Agency (DGEG), Portuguese Renewable Energy Association (APREN) Representatives from well-known domestic and foreign energy companies and institutions such as the Association of Portuguese Industries (AIP) will attend this forum.
Airing Views to explore the trend of international energy development
This forum includes a thematic summit and six sub forums. The theme summit focuses on two major topics: how to ensure a balance between safety, affordability, and sustainability in the process of energy transformation, and how to achieve energy fairness and justice transformation. The summit will mainly focus on keynote speeches, and Chinese and foreign scientists, business leaders, government officials, and representatives of international organizations will give speculative speeches on relevant topics.
In order to conduct a more in-depth analysis and discussion on the industrial development and technological frontiers of the main sub sectors of global clean energy, this forum has also set up six sub forums, including photovoltaic, green electricity, energy storage, green hydrogen energy, offshore wind power, and green finance. The topic of the Photovoltaic Sub Forum is "From Quantity to Quality - Challenges and Solutions for Photovoltaics as the Main Power Source in Energy Structure Transformation"; The theme of the Green Power Sub Forum is "To promote green power consumption and clean energy development"; The theme of the Energy Storage Sub Forum is "Opportunities and Challenges of Energy Storage Technology in a Low Carbon Economy"; The theme of the Green Hydrogen Energy Sub Forum is "Green Hydrogen Preparation and Pipeline Transportation"; The theme of the Offshore Wind Power Sub Forum is "The Commercial Development Path and Direction of Low Cost, High Reliability, and High Efficiency Floating Offshore Wind Power"; The theme of the Green Finance Sub Forum is "Fully Utilizing the Advantages of the China Portugal Platform to Develop Green Finance in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area".
Finally, this forum has also set up bilateral talks, project roadshows, post conference business research and other activities to enhance communication and cooperation between attendees and enterprises, and enhance the effectiveness of the conference's project implementation. The attending guests will have the opportunity to have more in-depth exchanges with global energy giants and leading clean energy companies.
